The Chocolate Chip Cookie
I think almost everyone’s first favorite cookie was the chocolate chip cookie. And really, what’s there NOT to like about this cookie? Buttery, vanilla sweet dough with the ooey gooey deliciousness of chocolate chips in an easy to handle and portable package. If only more things in life could come in such a delicious and convenient way!
Now there’s tons, millions even, of different chocolate chip recipes out there. From the standard Toll House one found on the back of the chocolate chip bag to your food haute coutre ones found in super sophisticated cookbooks and every variation in between. All of these are great, BUT, none of these ever reached out to me and sang, “Liz….Liz….I am your chocolate cookie…..” However, this…THIS I will say IS my chocolate chip cookie. It’s one of my personal favorites which I snagged, from all places, from a car forum. Errrr, “Cars and cookies??” you ask? Why yes…never underestimate the power of the cookie, my young grasshopper…
Not for the faint of heart (no really, I really mean it’s not for the faint of heart…when you see the amount of butter that goes into here, you really DO need a strong heart so as not to keel over), this cookie has all of the components that every good chocolate chip cookie has, but somehow manages to accentuate each of those characteristics and makes you savor them. Don’t ask me how because I don’t know. All I know is that it’s magic! Meltingly buttery and sweet, it starts out with a little crunch and gives way to a slightly chewy center with enough chips to make them just the perfect little surprise in every bite.
While it’s baking in the oven, just sit back and enjoy the wafting aromas of vanilla, butter, and heaven that will begin to pervade your house. Be prepared for guests in a while though…when the kids in the neighborhood realize you’re making these cookies, they will be coming in droves! What kid can ever resist its sweet siren call? This kid surely can’t, that’s for sure!
Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 1/4 cup all purpose bleached flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
14 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 bag semi sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, and baking soda into a medium bowl and set aside. In separate small bowl, mix eggs, vanilla, and salt and set aside. In large bowl, mix sugars until uniform. Then add melted butter and oil to sugars bowl and stir until smooth. Add egg mixture to sugar mixture and stir until smooth. Add flour to the batter and stir until smooth. Add chocolate chips. Drop tablespoon sized dough balls into ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes or until lightly browned.
Follow each step in order, and don’t deviate otherwise cookies will not set. Also, if you need a double batch, make them separately.
